 About Super RadHere is a few things you should know about Super Rad! First, this isn’t just any arcade bar. Very very few arcade bars still keep their games using all original hardware (original cabinets, boards, monitors and controls). Why? Because 30+ year old technology isn’t super reliable, takes a lot to get it working and keep it working. You can’t order an original Donkey Kong arcade from a catalog and it just works forever, you have to find an original, strip it to nothing, send parts out for repair individually, then put it all back together and fix issues as they happen. But we do. I really want people to experience a row of games that is different, unique, original and in fully restored condition. I repair the original cabinets, paint them, new artwork, t molding, and control panel art as needed. We take the joysticks apart to clean, repaint the coin doors, and just really put effort in to have nicely restored original games. Second, we aimed to create a unique experience – mashup of old school games but a 90s vibe (think saved by the bell lunchroom) with awesome music. And by awesome music I mean nothing newer than 2011(ish). Most arcades do the same rinse and repeat method of murals on all the walls, darker paint and vibes, random music, reproduction games (or worse – become what I call a “catalog arcade” – order all new Raw Thrills games and brand new Stern pinballs and ignore the classics because they take more work). We wanted to do the opposite. And finally, our drink menu was carefully crafted to provide a range of options. Whereas most arcades provide a range of sugar bomb cocktails (think – vodka + sweet mixer in an array of styles), we have created a range of drinks from bourbon, gin and tequila cocktails. Savory, sweet or funky – we got you. And yes, we are on Glenwood South. The local neighborhood folks and businesses have been amazing, and the best part is – Glenwood is sooo quiet during the week. If you want to experience an arcade but avoid Glenwood whenever possible (I get it, it can be a lot), just come anytime thats NOT friday and saturday after 6pm – and I promise you’ll find easy parking and we won’t be busy.
